Career
Apprenticeship in agriculture; 1891-1893 studies of agriculture at the Landwirtschaftliche Akademie (Academy of Agriculture) in Bonn-Poppelsdorf; doctoral candidate under Prof. Dr. Georg Liebscher at the University of Göttingen; 1896 Dr. phil. from the University of Kiel with a dissertation about Nährstoffaufnahme und Düngerbedürfnis des Roggens; 1901-1905 professor and director of the newly founded Institut für Versuchswesen und Bakteriologie at the Landwirtschaftliche Hochschule (Institute of Agriculture) in Berlin; 1905-1935 professorship in Boden- und Baulehre at the Academy of Agriculture in Bonn-Poppelsdorf;scientific advisor for practical seed breeding in the Rhine area.
