- Career
- Since 1593, studied medicine at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge; received his M.D. from the University of Padua in 1602, studying with Girolamo Fabrizzi; 1602-09 practiced medicine, London; 1609-29 St. Bartholomew's Hospital, London, where he was appointed to read the College lectures in 1615; 1628 published Exercitatio Anatomica de Motu Cordis & Sanguinis in Animalibus; 1633 journey to Scotland; 1636-46 practice of medicine, London and Oxford; 1645 was created warden of Merton College, Oxford, by the king's mandate; 1654 was nominated to become the next president of the College, which he declined.
