Comp. ca. 1892 Comment II: The item listed in Muensterberg’s list as Nr. 89 [corr: 86], the “Apparatus for the Appreciation of Colors” (Img 30174) is a different instrument from Holmgren’s Worsteds (IMG 30041) although it is based on the same idea. This IMG 30174 was devised by Galton and manufactured by The Cambridge Scientific Instrument Co. and others. This instrument is described in part as follows: The ordinary test with coloured wools is employed. The samples of wool are wound on black wooden reels and enclosed in a glass tube in order to keep them free from dust.
