1825-28 studies at the University of Bologna; 1828 degree in physics; 1829-30 attended scientific lectures at the Sorbonne; 1830 return to Forli; electrophysiological investigations at his father's home and in a small laboratory in Ravenna; 1840 professor of physics at the University of Pisa; senator for life and in 1862 minister of education.
