Career
Master of precision engineering; employment in the business of Tesdorpf in Stuttgart, Starke & Kammerer in Vienna and Firma Bamberg in Berlin; 1886 opening of his own workshop in Freiburg im Breisgau where he constructed high precision instruments for the University of Freiburg; production of theodolites and other meterological instruments which were required for building the railway at the Elztal and at the Kandertal; move into a new workshop and opening of an optics and photography shop; participation in the World exhibition at Chicago; orders from Harvard University and the University of Tokyo; 1901, after the establishment of the Freiburg municipal power station, concession for the construction of electrical installations; after World War I Elbs returns to the production of apparatuses for scientific institutes; 1936 Ernst Zentner takes over the management of the firm which today bears the name "Zentner Elektromechanik GmbH".
