- Career
- Studies of zoology in Vienna (1894-99) under Berthold Hatschek, in Leipzig (1896) under Rudolf Leuckart and in Strasbourg (1900-1902) under Friedrich Hofmeister; 1899 Dr. phil. in Vienna with a dissertation entitled Die Regeneration bei den Crustaceen; 1903 habilitated in zoology and experimental morphology (Experimentelle Studien über Regeneration) and founded the Biologische Versuchsanstalt in Vienna together with Leopold von Portheim and Wilhelm Figdor; 1913 professor extraordinarius for experimental zoology; 1921 associate professor at the II. Zoological Institute, University of Vienna; in 1943 he was deported to the Theresienstadt concentration camp, where he died in 1944.
