Career

1869 studied in Helsingfors; 1873 Ph.D., University of Helsingfors; 1881 M.D. with a dissertation entitled Über mechanische Nervenreizung, University of Helsingfors, and lecturer at the same institution; 1882 worked at the laboratory of the medico-surgical institute, Stockholm, following an invitation from swedish physiologist Christian Lovén; 1884-1886 substitute professor of physiology, same institution; 1886 - 1900 professor of physiology, same institution; 1893 published Lehrbuch der Physiologie des Kreislaufs in Leipzig; since 1897 edited the periodicalSkandinavisches Archiv für Physiologie; 1900 professor of physiology, University of Helsingfors; 1908-1914 published Handbuch der physiologischen Methodiktogether with several other physiologists; 1919 retirement.
