Short answer to Dr. Moor

Robert Bonnet pour des ar\u00eates transversalement coup\u00e9es de la membrane vitr\u00e9e. Si les libres \u00e9lastiques claires, qui adh\u00e8rent \u00e9troitement \u00e0 la membrane vitr\u00e9e, restaient incolores, le contour ext\u00e9rieur de la membrane vitr\u00e9e, coup\u00e9e en sens transversal, aurait certainement une apparence dentel\u00e9e, et alors on pourrait bien prendre ces dentelures pour autant de sections transversales des ar\u00eates longitudinales de la membrane vitr\u00e9e. En r\u00e9alit\u00e9, la membrane vitr\u00e9e ne forme que de larges plis longitudinaux; quant aux petites cannelures longitudinales et aux ar\u00eates qui, sur la surface externe de la membrane vitr\u00e9e, devraient y correspondre, on n'en remarque point. Au moyen de l\u2019orc\u00e9ine et de la coloration d\u2019apr\u00e8s M. Weigert, l\u2019auteur est parvenu \u00e0 obtenir des pr\u00e9parations microscopiques qui prouvent qu'imm\u00e9diatement sur la surface externe de la membrane vitr\u00e9e se trouve une capsule \u00e9lastique r\u00e9ticulaire \u00e0 fibres longitudinales (les mailles anguleuses du r\u00e9seau s'allongent en g\u00e9n\u00e9ral parall\u00e8lement \u00e0 l\u2019axe longitudinal du poil). Cette capsule \u00e9lastique r\u00e9ticulaire, a son tour, est recouverte de fibres \u00e9lastiques qui, s'entrela\u00e7ant en forme de r\u00e9seau, prennent de pr\u00e9f\u00e9rence une direction circulaire (les mailles de ce dernier entrelacement sont allong\u00e9es dans une direction approximativement perpendiculaire \u00e0 l'axe principal du poil). On aper\u00e7oit des anastomoses entre le premier entrelacement et le second. Afin d\u2019\u00e9tudier le mode de distribution et les rapports mutuels des deux entrelacements fibreux, transversal et longitudinal, on peut commod\u00e9ment avoir recours a une coupe tangentielle du poil du tact. Ces pr\u00e9parations permettent ordinairement de bien voir la partie de la membrane vitr\u00e9e, qui, en recouvrant d'une pellicule semi-transparente la gaine epith\u00e9liale externe, permet de voir cette gaine par transparence.\nSur les pr\u00e9parations inject\u00e9es on voit que le r\u00e9seau des capillaires de la papille du poil tactile s'\u00e9tend en haut \u00e0 peu pr\u00e8s jusqu'\u00e0 la surface de la peau; les mailles de ce r\u00e9seau capillaire peuvent s'observer au niveau de l'orifice des glandes s\u00e9bac\u00e9es.\nShort answer to Ur. MOO\u00c4.\nI wonder that Dr. Moor treats me as a partisan of his < discovery > when he says: <1 can be thankful for the good fortune that made it possible for Dr. Kuliahko and myself to obtain Ureine\u00bb.\nUpon the application of Dr. Moor I put indeed my attention on his <Ureine>. I studied it in an \u00abimpartial and just manner\u00bb, as Dr. Moor has stated. I have studied the literature on the question, have repeated the preparation of and have obtained the said substance, which Dr. Moor calls \u00abUreine\u00bb. Further 1 have experimented with it and\u2014whenever ihe \u00abdiscovery\u00bb seemed to be more than doubtful\u20141 have tried to be perfectly impartial. l\\iy conclusions therefore cannot be called superficial and ungrounued.\nNow, I find no \u00abgood fortune\u00bb in obtaining a quantity of watery alcoho-lical extract of condensed urine... I do not find it in repeating some ot Fou-chefs valuable experiments. For, as 1 have said, and 1 repeat it emphatically, the substance which Dr. Moor calls \u00abUreine\u00bb is no particular chemical bothj, hut a mixture of many different constituents of the urine, representing watery alcoholic extract of it. It is nearly perfectly identical to Fouchet s \u00abliquide sirupeux\u00bb obtained by him from the extract of urine ').\nAnd therefore in my first communication \u00abUeber das \u00abUrein\u00bb des Dr. Moor und seine physiologischen Wirkungen\u00bb (Full, de 1 Acad. d. \u00eeSc. deK-Pb. Now Dr. Moor says it is a \u00abgreat error of the most eminent men of Science, among them Lie Dig, to thmk that urine contains 2\u20143\".0 of Urea\u00bb. For the \u00abgood fortune\u00bb of l)r. Moor it would be more convenient to reduce it only to 0,5%! Does not Dr. Moor know that it is possible by means of cautious preparation to obtain in well formed crystals nearly the same quantity of Urea as Liebig\u2019s and azotometric methoas show? There are many other very exact methods which perfectly confirm one another.\nIn his new paper Dr. Moor does not give any new facts nor any essential answer to the opposition m my thesis. His reflections are as erroneous as before and his methods have no scientifical value (f. i. the method of estimating \u00abUreine\u00bb in diabetic urine by decantation!) The answer to two questions by which he finishes his pamphlet (1. Is ureine a chemical unity? 2. is ureine a newly discovered chemical body?) must be only negative:\n1.\tThe liquid obtained by Dr. Moor is no chemical nor physiological unity.\n2.\tIt is no new discovery, for not only Fouchet, but also Bouchard, Ad-duceo and many others have studied the extractive substances of urine z).\n') 1 wonder that Dr. Moor has not until now read Pouchet\u2019s chief article: \u201eContribution \u00e0 la connaisance des mati\u00e8res extractives de R urine', de T Acad, de m\u00e9d. de Paris 18S0. and only based his opposition on a short article which appeared later.\n-) This communication had just been printed in proof sheet when 1 received a pamphlet from Dr. Vershinin: \u201eOn the venenous constituents of the human urine' Tomsk 1901. Warschau.\nDer Autor studirte die anf\u00e4ngliche Entwicklung der Kornkr\u00e4he (Cur-vus frugilegus), der Hausente (Anas domestica), der Seeschwalbe (Sterna hirundo).\nIm Allgemeinen nimmt die Entwicklung dieser V\u00f6gel den Verlauf, welcher der vom Autor schon fr\u00fcher f\u00fcr das H\u00fchnerei ausgearbeiteten Norm entspricht, und werden bei den einzelnen hier behandelten Gruppen nur geringe Abweichungen beobachtet.\nDem Autor nach, wird in allen F\u00e4llen der Beginn der morphologischen Differenzirung durch die Bildung der mittleren ektodermischen Verdickung bezeichnet. Eine genau centrale Lage derselben ist nicht geboten; bei den Schwimmv\u00f6geln ist die Verdickung deutlich dem hinteren Rande n\u00e4her ger\u00fcckt, obgleich sie mit dem Grenzbezirke zwischen dem hellen und dem dunkeln Fruchthofe in keiner organischen Beziehung steht.\nAls neuer Faktor im Vergleich zu der Entwicklung des H\u00fchnereies erscheint die Bildung eines Primitivknotens, den man nicht selten bei der Kornkr\u00e4he und weit \u00f6fter bei der Ente und der Seeschwable antrifft; bei dem Huhn wird dieses Gebilde als h\u00f6chst seltene Abweichung von der gew\u00f6hnlichen Norm beobachtet. Das Erscheinen dieses Knotens hat jedenfalls einen palingeneti-schen Charakter und muss in der Entwicklung der V\u00f6gel als wichtiges Moment betrachtet werden, welches der Bildung des Primitivstreifens vorangeht.
